Hello Everyone, My name is Alina Visan and I am a Computer Science major. I will be taking my first Computer Science classes this summer so it is safe to say that I may not have a lot of experience as of today. I wanted to express that right away so that many of you do not get the wrong idea about where I stand in my studies. I do however have a passion when it comes to fixing problems of any kind. I know myself well enough to say that when someone lays a problem before me , my immediate reaction is to do whatever it takes to fix it. In my eyes there is always a way . I also would like to stress that I enjoy working with a group . The way I look at it , the more ideas, the better. During our first meeting I believe that I came up with a great idea to keep Lake Erie clean . Not just any idea but a possible winning idea, I would love to see if anyone else agrees or disagrees with it. I would love to be in a group . Let's make this happen , for Lake Erie and for ourselves. Thank you

Hi. My name is Chance Martin and I'm a software engineer for GE Grid Solutions in Redmond, WA. I saw the posting for the hackathon on the Predix Developer Network newsletter and was immediately interested in joining. I was born and raised in Painesville, Oh and have enjoyed all that Lake Erie has to offer since I was a child. I've also learned over the years about the many issues it faces including pollution, introduction of foreign species and harmful algae blooms. I've been with GE for over 2 years now so I have a good understanding of the Predix platform and how to utilize its services. I'm looking to start a team with my girlfriend who is a water resources engineer for CH2MHill.

I have lived in the area for almost all of my life, and I feel somewhat that I have taken for granted what an amazing resource Lake Erie is. Although not proficient in any way, shape or form, I have a huge interest in technology and also believe that it is the number one asset for solving problems now and heading into the future. I love meeting people, working with them, talking to various types of people, and solving problems with them. This is a tremendously important issue and something I would very much love to be a part of. I'm willing to help in any way that I can, even if that means going on coffee runs and telling jokes to keep people awake. This project is too important for any ego on my end. I've lived in Toledo for a little over 2 1/2 years now. I got my B.S. in Geology and Environmental Science from Miami University where I studied groundwater and surface water interactions. I work for a local environmental consulting firm performing compliance monitoring and environmental services. My experience is primarily in groundwater monitoring, as well as surface water sampling, soil sampling and gas monitoring. I have also been involved in the Western Lake Erie Basin Nutrient Source Inventory, performing data mining, entry, and QA/QC. My 'hacking' interests are in helping to identify current data gaps and areas of potential improvement for future surface water monitoring and nutrient load modeling in the Western Lake Erie Basin. I think there are ways in which the data that we collect could be more targeted and better serve the goals of stakeholders. I would like to investigate any and all ideas/improvements for future stream monitoring methods, possible efficiency improvements for data collection and QA/QC, and ideas for correlation and modeling of surface water parameters. If anyone has novel ideas relating to nutrient monitoring and/or addressing potential causes of harmful algal blooms, I would like to get involved and assist wherever I can.

Ten years ago I had a dream to develop a positive impact for the world. From this dream derived my mission to discover our most significant global issues and explore their impact over the next decade. This discovery encompassed the impact of over-utilization of natural resources, and more importantly—water—in terms of both an environmental perspective and the need for sustaining human life and utility. Through intense academic pursuits, I developed into an Internationalist and Agricultural Economist where much of my research abroad explored water technologies and natural resource allocation around the globe. I earned a B.S. from Miami University in Agricultural Economics with special emphases in Agriculture and Business, and minors in International Business and Chinese. I have also served as a guest lecturer at Miami University, Xavier University and the University of Cincinnati. My research and vocation abroad include regions in China, Southeast Asia, Middle East/Israel and extensive remote research with counterparts in Australia. My life and career pursuits have developed me into a well-rounded engineer in the following arenas: Environmental, Software, Hydraulics, Water Resources, Systems (specifically wastewater treatment) and Fluid Mechanics. By late 2015, this dream had materialized into a green platform business model for my company—WEL Enterprise, with a primary focus on water and energy solutions as well as productive green space structures (Water, Energy, Land). Developing the method and platform for the first closed loop industrial water reclamation system has been one of my greatest achievements and formed the foundation of WEL Enterprise. I hold provisional (process and system) and non-provisional patents in wastewater management and reclamation and currently completing the development of several more patentable, industry-specific processes and systems for wastewater management. Today, I have an incredible team of mentors, engineers and experts working together with a common vision for progressive impact and true sustainability. My goal to create winning solutions for the environment, humanity, and mutual sustainability has materialized into this business model. Through service on the council for Covington Kentucky’s Westside Coalition, the Green Infrastructure Group and Hamilton Mill’s Cleantech/Water Technology Group, and working very closely with the Environmental Protection Agency, I have gained invaluable experience and demonstrated success in municipal development, particularly regarding natural resource management. Furthermore, reputation and credibility acquired from years of extensive domestic and international research and development in environmental sustainability, with key advancements in environmental engineering & technologies, suggest this is only the beginning for what is ahead.

I am an inventor and entrepreneur. I have developed a system called aeroponic algal culture (AAC). AAC is an efficient means to cultivate algae from nutrient rich wastewater streams; both point source and nonpoint source alike. Our system cultivates algae on a substrate under a fine mist rather than in a body of water. By removing the majority of the water usage we are able to provide the algae with everything it needs grow in an energy efficient manner. The algae is grown in a concentrated fashion allowing for greater control of the environment and easier harvesting. We are looking for potential partners with access to a methane digestion system or other steady and consistent nutrient rich streams. Potential funders and/or research partners are also always welcome to contact us as well.

Hello ALL, I am a graduate student at University of Toledo, Toledo-OH in Civil/Environmental Engineering. My background involves 1) Working on Air pollution software AERMOD, regulatory software of USEPA during my MS more than ten years back. 2) I have worked on designing/pilot testing for Arsenic treatment facilities (ATF) used for processing carcinogenic arsenic. This involved reducing Arsenic concentration from approx 50 to 25ppb (parts per billion) down to less than 100 ppb, as mandated by the then USEPA regulations, from groundwater before distribution for regular consumption. Treatment methods involved ferric chloride and adsorption vessels. 3) Have had opportunities to work with Public transportation specifically in Railroads. Understanding the engineering and safety aspects of railroads in general. 4) For a brief period worked on SAP which is an Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) business processing software. Primarily, I worked on customization with respect to the business requirements. 5) Currently working on thesis that tries to deal with effects of nano particles used in electronic consumer items on human health. The processes involves Life Cycle Analysis of the various processes from material sourcing, manufacturing, usage to end of life disposal phase. 6) Above and beyond the technical skills I am also interested in general knowledge/political affairs and as and when possible tried to write an article or two on such topics. I would like to believe that I have a diverse set of skills that could be used in various capacities for this challenge. Looking forward to be a part of a team wherein I can contribute and encourage the rest of the team to provide their optimum output. I am trying to lookout for individuals/team likewise if anyone finds me good enough to be approached to form a team, I greatly look up to it. Thanks and a have a great time. Sakib Pathan.

I'm interested in building a mobile or web app to help farmers track their use of fertilizers. Everything I've read about the algal bloom problem suggests that farmers overuse fertilizers, and the runoff gets into the lake. I want to make it really easy for farmers to track their use of fertilizers so that they don't over-apply them.

Let's win this thing Toledo.

I am in the process of launching my start-up 10 Research Group, LLC. 10 Research Group, LLC is an independent research group that creates turn-key solutions for complex issues through technological innovations. Participating and winning the Aquahack feels like a perfect way to network and launch my start-up. I am a very successful marketing and advertising consultant, who won multiple CEO top sales awards. I have been in advertising and marketing for the past 10 years with one of the largest and oldest marketing and advertising companies in the world, but plan on leaving once I fully launch my start-up. I went to school for psychology and have used my degree every day to understand people, businesses, and what they both want and need to be successful. I have an idea for an app already that I want to bring to life with some developers. I would really like to implement the app idea I have with a team of people who better understand the water issue than myself this way the commercialization of the app will be working on the front end to bring knowledge to the community but also is serving as a secondary purpose to prevent future issues.

I'm an economist turned programmer turned entrepreneur. I'm happy to help any teams in any way I can. I'm good at SQL and web applications.
